Bret Anne Serbin has joined our team as a general assignment reporter. She is based in Montana’s Gallatin Valley and comes to Buffalo’s Fire with five years of reporting experience.
Bret previously covered local government and community issues for the Missoulian and reported on the intersections of business, local government and rural community resources for the Daily Inter Lake. “I’m keenly aware of the lack of nuanced media coverage when it comes to tribes in and around Montana,” she said, “so I’m excited to be part of a team advancing trust and accountability.”
Bret is the recipient of multiple Montana Newspaper Association awards.
“Bret joins our team with great experience in reporting, and she also brings knowledge on strategic communications for those doing work in rural areas,” said Jodi Rave Spotted Bear, executive director of the Indigenous Media Freedom Alliance. “Our goal in the Buffalo's Fire newsroom is to amplify the voices and issues in rural Native communities where often there's a lack of independent Native, and non-Native, media outlets."
We also look forward to announcing the hiring of an additional full-time reporter, who will join our team in early September.
