Three-day championship powwow will feature dance competitions, a singing contest and youth events at Summit Arena

Black Hills Powwow set for October in Rapid City

The 38th annual He Sapa Wacipi Na Oskate Black Hills Powwow will take place Oct. 9-11 at Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City, South Dakota, according to the event flyer. Organizers announced a total prize payout of $200,000 and said the gathering will honor the 150th anniversary of the Victory at Greasy Grass.

The championship powwow will include dance competitions for youth, teens, adults and elders, along with the World Championship of the Black Hills Singing Contest. Other activities will include a hand game tournament, vendors, a style show and youth day. Grand entries are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale Sept. 5.
