Annual Spiritual Run To Honor Battle Of The Little Bighorn Legacy

Event marks the 150th anniversary with prayers for intergenerational healing and resilience

Annual spiritual run to honor Battle of the Little Bighorn legacy

The Annual Little Bighorn Memorial Spiritual Run will take place June 25, beginning at Medicine Deer Rock and ending at Little Bighorn National Monument. Organizers said the run honors the resilience of Cheyenne, Arapaho and Lakota ancestors and serves as a prayer for intergenerational healing during the 150th anniversary of the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

According to event organizers, the run is dedicated this year to Chance River Alden and honors the legacy of Florence Bites Whiteman, who was born 100 years ago and raised by ceremonial people who participated in the battle. Chief Phillip Whiteman Jr. envisioned the run more than 25 years ago, and organizers said generations of families have continued the tradition. Registration begins with pickup at 7 a.m. at the Tribal Office, followed by a 7:30 a.m. start. All runners are welcome.
