Native Media Freedom Alliance Champions Ncai Resolution To Strengthen Tribal Sovereignty Through Independent Press
The resolution "Support of Freedom of Information and Independent Native Media" has been submitted to NCAI and approved for a vote on Thursday, Oct. 22, during the 83rd Annual Convention.

The Native Media Freedom Alliance is calling for broad support of NCAI Resolution #PSC-26-058, an initiative aimed at safeguarding freedom of information and independent Native press as vital pillars of tribal sovereignty. Spearheaded by Buffalo’s Fire founder Jodi Rave Spotted Bear (Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation), the alliance works directly with tribes and communities to develop open-access information channels, establish sound media policies, and counter misinformation. By framing public access to records and accountable journalism as modern extensions of historical governance traditions, the resolution seeks to empower tribal citizens, bolster governmental transparency, and ensure Native news outlets have the protections necessary to serve their communities effectively.
We provide independent Native-focused reporting that gives our communities the context and the facts they need to make informed decisions.
