Rosebud Battlefield Commemoration To Mark 150th Anniversary
Ceremony at Rosebud Battlefield State Park will include descendant recognition, horseback riders and events marking 150 years since the Battle of the Rosebud

A commemoration marking the 150th anniversary of the Battle of the Rosebud is scheduled for June 17, 2026, at Rosebud Battlefield State Park, according to the event program. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and include a presentation of colors, a blessing, remarks from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials and a keynote address by Dr. Leo K. Killsback of the Northern Cheyenne Nation.
The program also includes a wreath-laying ceremony and descendant recognition honoring descendants from the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, Crow Nation, Eastern Shoshone Tribe, Northern Arapaho Tribe, Oglala Sioux Tribe, Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe of Oklahoma, Fort Peck Tribes, the United States Army and the Kobold family. Additional events include an interpretive hike, the arrival of horseback riders, a living history reenactment of "Where the Girl Saved Her Brother," a victory song by the Northern Cheyenne Drum Group and a community feast and gathering.
