Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to hold public safety hearings

Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Chairman Sitting Bear will host a series of Public Safety Initiative hearings from March 24-26 to gather direct input from the community. The open forums will take place at 6 p.m. CST each evening in the tribe's three largest districts: Bear Soldier, Long Soldier and Cannonball. Tribal leadership intends to use these sessions to listen to the Oyate's concerns, issues and recommendations regarding local safety.

The initiative's mission is to establish a multidisciplinary framework to reduce crime and promote prosperity across the Standing Rock Nation. "We can’t live in the past, we have to start looking toward the future, we must make a better future for our generations to come with the work we do now," Chairman Sitting Bear said. Verbal testimonies will be limited to five minutes per person, though written comments are also accepted. KLND 89.5 FM will broadcast the hearings live.
