D’Angelo Hunt, who was charged last month for the murder of his brother Isaac, is now also facing federal charges for the voluntary manslaughter of “J.M.P.,” believed to be Jemini Posey. An indictment filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota on Dec. 11 includes several new charges against Hunt, including assault resulting in substantial bodily injury and assault by strangulation.
The indictment states Hunt “unlawfully killed a human being, namely, J.M.P., without malice, upon a sudden quarrel and heat of passion.”
Spirit Lake citizen Jemini Posey has been missing since Jan. 3, 2024. Her older sister, Jade Frier-Posey, told Buffalo’s Fire that she spoke with an investigator who confirmed that the new voluntary manslaughter charge against Hunt was related to her sister’s disappearance.
Buffalo’s Fire previously reported on domestic abuse against Posey, who was trying to leave a relationship with Hunt around the time of her disappearance. The indictment identifies J.M.P. as an “intimate partner” of Hunt.
Frier-Posey said in a text to Buffalo’s Fire that her sister’s remains have not been found, and the family is still searching for her. Neither the FBI nor the Spirit Lake public information officer immediately responded to a request for confirmation that the J.M.P. in the indictment refers to Jemini Posey, whose middle name is Madeline. The United States Attorney’s Office declined to confirm the identity.
Of Hunt, Frier-Posey said, “I hope this makes him speak on where she is.” She added that agents have been working hard, “and we are thankful for that.”
“The charges alleged in this indictment are one more brutal example of violence against indigenous women,” FBI agent Alvin Winston Sr. said in a press release. “Too many women and men face fear and violence on tribal lands.”
The indictment also includes new charges relating to the murder of Hunt’s brother, including tampering with evidence.
