During Pride Month, let us reflect on the progress we have made in advancing LGBTQ+ rights while acknowledging the work that still lies ahead. It is a call to action for social change, demanding justice and equal treatment for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
I want to acknowledge how Pride Month relates to our own communities. Our Two-Spirit relatives also seek to reclaim and celebrate the historical and cultural significance of gender and sexual diversity within our own cultures. We should all take time to emphasize the importance of recognizing and honoring the unique experiences and contributions of Two-Spirit people while challenging colonial norms that have marginalized and erased their identities.
Let’s stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, amplifying their voices and recognizing the importance of their experiences. Let us strive for a world where every individual is free to love who they choose and express themselves authentically, without prejudice or discrimination.
