RCMP officer receives highest honour from First Nation

By Charles Hamilton, The StarPhoenix August 31, 2012

RCMP Const. Cameron Schmidt says he was just doing his job when he initiated a drug bust on a reserve near Tisdale. The local First Nation believes the 34-year-old officer’s actions were much more than that.

“Sometimes it only takes one individual to change the world,” said Kinistin Saulteaux Nation Chief Albert Scott.

“With the actions of Const. Schmidt, we feel he is going to change Kinistin.”

Scott and the Kinistin Saulteaux Nation presented Schmidt with a framed eagle feather at a ceremony on Thursday in Tisdale. The presentation of an eagle feather is the highest honour a non-First Nations person can receive from a First Nations community.
