We’re sorry for the disruption you may have experienced on buffalosfire.com and imfreedomalliance.org. Over the past day, we paused some services while we investigated and restored systems following a crypto-mining attempt. This type of attack typically tries to quietly use a server’s computing power to generate digital currency like Monero without permission. To be clear, there’s nothing inherently wrong with Monero itself; the issue is the unauthorized use of computing resources to mine it. We were largely protected from any broader impact, but we took the incident seriously.

Out of an abundance of caution, we conducted a thorough review of our infrastructure and access controls. Our focus remains on serving our communities with dependable, indepentend journalism. We are a nonprofit organization, and our purpose is not to fight hackers — it’s to report, support, and inform. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We’re grateful to be back with you and committed to keeping this space safe and accessible.
