Daniela Aki thanks supporters following networking event by The Study ND

Daniela Aki met with community members to discuss the mission, values and work that Buffalo's Fire provides the Bismarck, Mandan, Lincoln area and beyond

Community Connections, Thank You

A big thank you to The Study ND, the Kennedy Center and all the attendees that came to learn about Buffalo’s Fire and the Indigenous Media Freedom Alliance. I connected with supporters, new faces and leaders in other nonprofit organizations doing impactful work in our community.

I highlighted our new Smoke Signals page on the Buffalo’s Fire website, our new flyers board and the reason news through an Indigenous lens is necessary in the Bis/Man/Lincoln area. Together we learned that Buffalo’s Fire drives connection through information gathering and sharing in our community. Attendees asked insightful questions, among them, “What can we do next?”

I happily say sign up for our free weekly newsletter by going to our website. Consider sharing who we are with your friends and family. And, if you’re able to donate, please do! Your support helps us tread today’s uncertain waters of public media, and we are grateful to our community members that set aside resources to support our work.

Buffalo’s Fire set to present work March 27 in Bismarck

The Study ND included the organization in its Community Connections series

The Study ND, previously known as Humanities ND, has included Buffalo’s Fire in its series highlighting nonprofit organizations in the Bismarck/Mandan/Lincoln area. Buffalo’s Fire is proud to be included in this series showcasing transformative work being done in our community.

On Friday, March 27, I will present our work to community members and local organizations at the Kennedy Memorial Center, 1902 E. Divide Ave., starting at 7 p.m. We continue to stamp our footprint in the Bismarck/Mandan/Lincoln community, as well as nationally and into Canada.

Independent, local news helps to keep residents informed and connected, and we go one step further by implementing solutions journalism that highlights efforts being taken to address critical issues in our communities. I look forward to connecting with you and answering any questions you may have about the important work we do each day. For more information, please contact me at daniela@imfreedomalliance.org or at contact@buffalosfire.com

Buffalo's Fire invites submissions for new readers feature

Community engagement manager Daniela Aki asks for letters, newsroom questions and event flyers

Smoke signals were used to communicate messages across the Great Plains and, in keeping with that tradition, Buffalo’s Fire would like to post your messages of gathering, community, support, and more on our new feature: Smoke Signals.

My name is Daniela Aki, and I am the Community Engagement Manager for Buffalo’s Fire. Send me your letters, questions for the newsroom, and flyers of your events—local and afar—and we’ll post them for all to see. We’re creating a community of engaged citizens, gathering like-minded allies, and chasing change together.

Stay Connected

Each month, I’ll highlight events where you can catch up with me in person. I’m here to listen to your concerns and suggestions for ways to strengthen our community.

Our communities are composed of individuals; it’s up to us for our communities to reflect values that benefit us all. I look forward to engaging more with each of you and igniting the spark of civic engagement that helps keep Buffalo’s Fire spreading across North Dakota and beyond.
