Cherokee writer features leading Native historians in new podcast
‘First America’ shares underreported historical context
On Cherokee writer Rebecca Nagle’s new podcast “First America,” Indigenous experts unpack the historical realities of U.S. development that have shaped modern democracy and the place that Native Americans play in current affairs.
The project, which debuted this summer to coincide with the 250th anniversary of signing the Declaration of Independence, challenges popular notions about the founding fathers, the American Revolution and the role of Indigenous people over the course of colonial expansion.
Nagle’s project centers numerous Native scholars to bring forward powerful information and better understanding around the disenfranchisement of tribal nations. First America also offers learning tools to complement the episodes.
