Portland artists seek donations for new space
Nonprofit fosters economic stability, public education
The Portland Indigenous Marketplace in Oregon is seeking donations for a new roof to establish the organization’s hoped-for community hub.
The nonprofit organization, founded by Indigenous Peruvian jeweler Lluvia Merello, wants to build “barrier-free, culturally respectful spaces that encourage cultural resilience and economic sustainability, supporting Indigenous artists and entrepreneurs through public education and art.”
An anonymous donor gifted the space at 737 SE Sandy Boulevard to Portland Indigenous Marketplace in 2024, but the group has said it needs to renovate the roof and perform numerous other improvements before opening to the public for events and markets.
