Environmental groups can't be defendants in states' coal power dispute, judge rules

A federal judge in Minnesota has ruled that environmental groups can't be defendants in an energy dispute between North Dakota and Minnesota.

North Dakota sued Minnesota last year over a state law that restricts the use of coal-fired energy to limit greenhouse gas emissions

U.S. District Judge Steven Rau ruled that the Minnesota attorney general's office covers the concerns and expertise of environmental groups in that dispute, Minnesota Public Radio reports.
