Membertou hosts annual powwowPublished on September 9, 2012Greg McNeilSYDNEY — Food and dance to highlight a people’s past and a theme to inspire protection of the world’s future highlighted the 10th annual powwow at Membertou First Nation over the weekend.Festive activities began Thursday evening with the lighting of the sacred fire and stepped up with music and dance Friday through Sunday.“Our grand entry with all the dancers, singers and drummers was absolutely beautiful,” said powwow organizer Janine Christmas.“It was so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes.”Other aspects of First Nations culture on display included traditional dancers, basket-making, storytelling and numerous traditional feasts.Read more: https://www.capebretonpost.com/News/Local/2012-09-09/article-3071174/Membertou-hosts-annual-powwow/1read more
