Parks Canada launches Stoney Nakoda First Nation park entry pass program
Members of three First Nations get lifetime entry passes to Banff National Park

As a boy, Bearspaw Chief Darcy Dixon remembers sneaking into Banff National Park to gather traditional medicines with his grandparents.“Instead of paying at the park, we would try to sneak around,” he recalled. “All of our grandparents thought they didn’t have to pay at the park, but you had to.”
No longer, though.
Members of the Stoney Nakoda, which includes three individual First Nations, now have lifetime access to Banff National Park after an entry pass program was launched Monday with Parks Canada.
“This is a significant step forward in our journey together,” said Conservative MP Blake Richards, who attended the ceremony at the Banff Indian Grounds, just outside of the Banff townsite, on behalf of Environment Minister Peter Kent.
